Corrosion attacks at the surface of the material and it is widely understood that it’s important to ensure the surface finish is suitable. However, availability of the many available surface finish profiles - e.g. “mill finish”, “2B”, “320 grit” - and their association with Roughness Average, ‘RA’, can be confusing.
It can be said that the smoother the surface, the better the corrosion resistance. However, it is important to remember that different mills and the use of different ranges of polishing compounds and rouges will all have different results.
Ensure you get more information from your fabricator or supplier prior to determining the most suitable finish for your product or contact ElectroShine for surface finish information.
ElectroRefinement™ (electropolishing) is about more than RA reduction.
